ISN is the global leader in contractor and supplier information management, with more than 25 years of experience connecting 900 Hiring Clients in capital-intensive industries, consisting of 90,000 active contractors and suppliers, to promote safety, health, and sustainability in the workplace.
Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Dallas, TX, the company operates 12 offices worldwide and supports customers in more than 85 countries. It has been operating in Canada for nearly 20 years across offices in Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal.
ISN’s platform, ISNetworld, serves as a network for Hiring Clients and contractors to manage documentation, track training and qualifications, benchmark performance, and gain data insights, helping decision makers ensure contractor, supplier, and subcontractor risk is assessed and monitored before work begins. Alongside ISNetworld, the company’s brands include Transparency-One, a responsible sourcing platform built to bring transparency to supply chain management, and Empower, a worker-level app designed to keep front-line workers moving forward.
What sets ISN apart
ISN’s differentiator is its human review layer. The company’s Review and
Verification Services (RAVS) team, a group of safety professionals launched in 2005, manually verifies contractors’ written safety programs and self-reported data against regulations and each client’s specific requirements, then provides feedback and help documents where revisions are needed. In addition to program and document review, ISN offers RAVS 360 assessments to gain insights into contractors’ health, safety, and environmental program implementation and safety culture, helping improve visibility into contractor performance, streamline onboarding, and align with evolving regulatory frameworks at local and federal levels.
ISN was founded to help Hiring Clients track and manage contractor certifications and documents required for high-risk pipeline work when the best way to manage the process was binders and duplicative materials. After 25 years, the platform has grown from a document repository into a broader qualification and risk-management network that collects and manages safety, insurance, sustainability, cybersecurity, and financial data all in one place.
Where analytics and AI fit
ISN has layered AI across the platform while keeping expert judgment at the centre. ISNetworld offers AI-driven data analytics to benchmark contractor safety performance, such as total recordable injury frequency (TRIF) and serious injury and fatality (SIF) rates against industry peers, flag gaps in documentation or training, and help Hiring Clients identify high-risk contractors before work starts.
Its proprietary engine, InsightAI, compiles free-text feedback from worker and employee assessments into actionable findings, powering the company’s CultureSight safety-culture assessments and its RAVS 360 offering to help improve jobsite safety culture. In the Empower app, AI-generated Toolbox Talks can produce more than 200 tailored safety briefings, quizzes, and conversation points, while Hazard Assistant, uses AI photo analysis trained by ISN’s Health and Safety team to help workers identify potential hazards and categorize them by primary energy source to help ensure the right controls are in place.
A growing Canadian footprint
Canada is a longstanding focus for ISN, with Kim Ritchie leading Canadian Client Development from its Calgary office. Contractors and Hiring Clients across oil and gas, manufacturing, telecom, mining, and public-sector work use the platform to reduce administrative redundancy and demonstrate compliance across multiple clients at once, while Hiring Clients gain assurance that the contractors on their sites are safe and compliant with industry and company requirements.
Product overview
Hazard Assistant is ISN’s most recent AI-powered tool in the Empower app, built to help workers identify potential hazards earlier, suggest appropriate controls, and support stronger safety conversations before work begins. Similar to the way companies use the Energy Wheel, the tool helps workers identify potential hazards and categorizes them by primary energy source to help ensure the right controls are in place. Accessible from a mobile device, it simplifies the review of jobsite hazards at the moment and place they matter most.
Key features and capabilities
AI-driven photo analysis that helps workers visualize risks in real-world conditions while incorporating human input to determine the appropriate solution
A shareable PDF summary outlining identified hazards, classifying energy sources aligned with the Energy Wheel, and recommending controls, so teams can distribute and document safety insights across the jobsite
Direct links to relevant Toolbox Talks within the Empower app, offering AI-generated safety briefings, conversation points, and training materials tailored to specific jobsite risks
Developed with the expertise of ISN’s Health and Safety team and available to ISN customers globally through the Empower app
Integrations
To access Hazard Assistant, ISN customers download the Empower mobile app and connect their ISNetworld account.
Workers begin by uploading a photo of the jobsite into the Empower app under the Hazard Assistant tool. They then add context with a written note or voice-to-text, so the review reflects actual field conditions, including weather, site setup, and other relevant details. ISN’s proprietary AI engine reviews the photos and notes to identify hazards and potential controls, helping workers notice high-risk areas they may need to address before the task starts.
