Marissa DesRoches is a safety manager for Kiewit Construction Services, one of North America’s most respected engineering and construction organizations. Marissa has been involved with several successful construction projects working in Northern Alberta and British Columbia. She worked on a water treatment facility in Elkford, BC, managing teams throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and achieving the ultimate goal of sending everyone home safely, with zero recordable injuries. Marissa has her NCSO, Professional OH&S Diploma from the University of Alberta and will be receiving a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in August 2022. She will be pursuing her Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation later this year.
Marissa started with Kiewit as a safety coordinator in 2019. From the start, she was an ambitious, high- potential employee and was given an opportunity to accelerate her career path as a safety manager. According to her, support from senior leadership helped make the transition exciting and unforgettable. Marissa was the safety manager on two projects that were recordable free: Teck Fording River and Coeur Silvertip. She strives to make a difference not only in the lives of those she works with, but also in the life of her community. This year, she has been granted the opportunity to work with Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, a not-for-profit organization operating out of Edmonton, in a volunteer capacity, providing the organization with support and solutions on their annual cultural camp in celebration of Indigenous traditions. When she is not at work or studying, she spends her time reading or traveling. So far, she has been to 29 countries and has read 34 books this year.
