Gerald Balila brings a dynamic mix of international experience and local insight to his role in health and safety. Originally from the Philippines, he earned a Bachelor of Industrial Technology and built a strong foundation through hands-on experience across construction, oil and gas, petrochemical, manufacturing, and power generation sectors. To further his career, he completed a postgraduate program in occupational health and safety management at Lambton College in Canada.
Gerald joined Green Infrastructure Partners (GIP) as a co-op in January 2024 and was hired full-time as an HSE Coordinator in May 2024. Since then, he has played a key role in supporting the corporate HSE team, with a primary focus on overseeing the company’s digital safety systems. He manages system administration, resolves technical issues, and collaborates with leadership to develop and implement custom solutions that enhance safety performance and efficiency.
In addition to his software responsibilities, Gerald supports training initiatives by tracking participation, approving providers, and ensuring alignment with GIP’s safety standards. He also works closely with field teams to deliver effective orientation, create digital learning modules, and ensure seamless integration of safety practices across the organization.
Beyond his core responsibilities, Gerald actively contributes to enhancing GIP’s safety culture by leading office safety initiatives, maintaining high-visibility safety boards, and driving continuous improvement in internal safety processes. Actively pursuing his NCSO designation, Gerald remains committed to professional growth while balancing life as a proud and devoted father of two.

A significant part of his focus today is staying ahead of regulatory change while maintaining a seamless client experience. He tracks updates from regulators and lenders closely and works with his teams to adjust systems as needed.
“My approach to my role and my career has always been rooted in passion, focus, and a relentless pursuit of excellence,” he says. “I’ve never been driven solely by profit or business metrics. I believe in hiring great talent, trusting them, and pushing boundaries because innovation doesn’t come from playing it safe.”
His experience isn’t limited to Canada. Ibrahim has worked in the US and UAE, which shaped his global perspective and comfort with adapting to different markets. He thrives on risk, viewing setbacks as stepping stones to progress.
