Melissa Fleury has been working with Modern Niagara Group for over five years. She started her career in safety as a full-time health and safety coordinator after graduating college in 2019. Demonstrating excellent organizational skills and passion, she has recently been promoted to regional HSE manager. She is also a part-time professor at Humber College, where she teaches trade safety.
Fleury excels in a wide variety of areas, including claims management, policy and procedure development, risk management, and prevention strategy development. She has also played a role in developing and improving the company’s health and safety procedures, implementing the health and safety management system, and developing the claims management program. With her love of learning and drive to grow as a person and professional, she has completed her Certificate in Health, Safety, and Environmental Processes and is currently working toward her diploma in Safety, Health, and Environmental Management at the University of Fredericton.
Fleury greatly values continuous education and is always seeking more ways to be proactive and to continue improving health and safety while still considering work efficiency. As a natural leader, she always provides support, leadership, and advice to the teams at Modern Niagara. She brings enthusiasm to ensure the health and safety of all are top priorities, which makes everyone feel valued and protected each day.
Fleury has the passion, initiative, and drive to thrive in her career as a health and safety professional. She works closely with her teams, both locally, nationally, internally within the company, and externally with industry partners and experts, to find new strategies and methods to better support and build a healthier and safer work environment for everyone.

“As the leader of a team, it’s important to motivate and encourage your team members. People work very hard and do their best and it’s important to recognize these efforts. For my career overall, my attitude has been one of curiosity. The more you can learn, the better you’ll understand the business, and then the deeper your knowledge will become, making you a better team member.”

“Marketing is a very busy space. The challenge is to keep it fresh and keep it new. There’s so much out there. You have to think about how to break through.”
Since joining the firm in 2015, Ryan Specialty has:

• launched 10 companies
“With each acquisition and de novo formation, a large branding component is involved,” says Phillips Topping.
Speaking on the importance of spotlighting marketing professionals, Phillips Topping says, “It’s imperative to shine a light on those who aren’t necessarily brokers or underwriters. There are so many different aspects of the industry. It’s nice to show all the great work that’s being done behind the scenes.”
